Abstract
The molecular structure of the title compound, C7H5IO, is normal. Ther
e are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. Both kinds of
molecules pack in similar two-dimensional sheets, in which the most st
riking feature is short distances [3.068 (4) and 3.074 (4) Angstrom] b
etween the O and I atoms in adjacent molecules, both of which can be t
hought of as an interaction between the Lewis base, -CHO, and the Lewi
s acid, I.
