Colorectal carcinoma result from germinal and somatic mutations. In co
ntrast to monogenetic DNA defects intestinal carcinogenesis is a long-
term complex process. Several decades may elapse between the primary d
efect and the directly manifestated development of colorectal carcinom
a. Without doubt nutritional factors have a great influence on carcino
genesis. The authors show what nutritional factors may contribute to -
prevent primary defects initiating carcinogenesis -reduce the colorect
al rate of carcinomas in high risk groups, -support other preventive a
nd therapeutical measures, and -reduce the risk of further tumor devel
opment in the duodenum at the papilla vateri after curative-surgical t
herapy.
