Twenty-four brands of commercial infant milk formula were collected an
d analysed for selenium by inductively coupled plasma spectrometry wit
h the hydride t-system after an acid digestion procedure. The mean sel
enium concentration was 49.0 +/- 11.55 mu g l(-1), with a range from 2
6-68 mu g l(-1), resulting in an adequate daily selenium intake for in
fants aged from zero to six months Consuming 0.751 milk daily as set b
g the US National Research Council in 1989.
