Abstract
The PRISMA project is part of a hierarchy of national research project s in Germany for investigating momentum, energy and mass fluxes in the North Sea ecosystem. Its specific objectives are the identification, analysis and formulation of the physical, chemical and biological proc esses controlling contaminant fluxes. The necessary mesoscale and smal l-scale data base was acquired through multi-ship experiments in the G erman Eight together with numerical models. The 6 accompanying article s are devoted to an integrated presentation of the results of a drift experiment in April 1991.
