Abstract
This is the first report that an appropriate temperature gradient play s a catalytic role in the growth of Bi-system whiskers. Pi-system whis kers are grown out only under a temperature gradient of 2-5 degrees C/ cm, but not under other cases. The fact strongly supports the tip grow th mechanism. Magnetization measurement and four probe resistance meas urement show that these whiskers have perfect superconducting properti es.
