Two new types of Cerium-based layered copper oxides have been synthesi
zed and characterized. (Ce,Ni)Sr2YCu2Oy has a tetragonal unit cell wit
h a = 3.8 Angstrom, c = 11.8 Angstrom, and space group of P4/mmm. In t
he structure Ce occupies the rock-salt layer. (Ce,M)Sr-2(Ln,Ce)(2)Cu2O
z (M = Zn,Ni, Ln = Y,La,Nd,Sm,Eu,Gd,Dy,Er,Tm) crystallizes in a body-c
entered lattice with a = 3.8 Angstrom, c = 29 Angstrom, and space grou
p of I4/mmm. Tn the structure Ce occupies both the fluorite layer and
the rock-salt layer. The samples are not superconducting.
