Abstract
Studies on the production of indole compounds by the ectomycorrhizal f ungus: Cantharellus cibarius were carried out. Two strains were used. The strain 5400 (hardwood form) was isolated from the sporocarp growin g in soil under oak and stain 5410 (coniferous form) was isolated from a sporocarp growing in soil under pine. The strain 5410 (coniferous f orm) produced more auxin-like substances than the strain 5400 (hardwoo d form). It is of interest that tryptophan inhibited the synthesis of auxins in the hardwood form but stimulated it in the coniferous one. A lso pH affected more than the composition of the medium the production of auxins in strain 5410. The reverse phenomenon was observed in stra in 5400. The presence of indoleacetic acid (IAA), indolecarboxylic aci d (ICA) and indoleacetic acid nitrile (IAN) was detected in the eluate s of the fungus by paper chromatography and confirmed by gas chromatog raphy.
