A prospective study concerning 10 animal species in the region of Tuni
s, demonstrated that ringworm was observed in 33.5 % of the cases. Thr
ee species of dermatophytes were isolated: Microsporum canis: in cats,
dogs, and for the first time in Tunisia in rabbits; Trichophyton ment
agrophytes: in cobayes, rabbits and in one single occasion in cat, and
donkey; Trichophyton verrucosum: found exclusively in cattle. The aut
hors insist on the important number of asymptomatic carriers of dermat
