In this status report on powder metallurgy (P/M) in Taiwan, we focus o
n structural parts. Since 1978 the P/M industry in Taiwan has grown at
an annual rate in excess of 15%. Due to the strong demand for P/M str
uctural parts by the transportation, industrial machinery, electrical
machinery, and related industries. Warm compaction is now used in the
production of high strength P/M parts for electric power tools, and me
tal injection molding is a high value-added production process. Both p
rocesses will assume important roles in the P/M industry in Taiwan in
the future. Since its establishment in 1981, the Powder Metallurgy Ass
ociation of the Republic of China (PMA/R.O.C.) has grown rapidly. Gove
rnment and industry promote R & D programs which result in new P/M tec
hnology and business.
