Abstract
A framework for measures of non-transitivity in finite tournaments is presented. Axiomatic characterizations for five well-known intransitiv ity measures are derived. The characterizing conditions are obtained b y formalizing and generalizing amongst other things principles of weig hting or non-weighting of elementary preference reversals and ways of diminishing the intransitivity.
