Abstract
Brucine, bitrex (Denatonium Benzoate) and amerex (Denatonium Saccharid e) have been studied as denaturants for industrial alcohol. In order t o tender ordinary denatured spirit (ODS)/specially denatured spirit (S DS) adversely bitter even at the potable dilution (20 % v/v) of alcoho l, the following concentrations of bitterants were found suitable: bru cine or brucine sulphate 200 ppm, bitrex 100 ppm and amerex 50 ppm in ODS/SDS respectively. The above bitterants were assayed by UV spectrop hotometry al lambda 264 nm.
