A simple complexometric method has been developed for the determinatio
n of calcium directly at pH 12-13 and magnesium from the difference in
the titre values for total calcium and magnesium at pH about 10. The
method is free from most metal interferences. The method has been appl
ied to dolomites, limestone, magnesite, phosphate and silicate matrice
s and the results obtained compare favourably with those from the repo
rted values.
