CHROMOSOME STRUCTURE AND GENE-REGULATION

The packaging of DNA in chromosomes presents obstacles to the action o f gene regulatory proteins and polymerases on their natural chromatin substrates. We critically assess previously existing ideas for how the se obstacles may be overcome, and then summarize a recently proposed m odel and discuss its implications.
