Ng. Khlebtsov et al., RELAXATION OF OPTICAL ORIENTATIONAL EFFECTS IN DISPERSIONS WITH NON-RAYLEIGH PARTICLES, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 59(5), 1997, pp. 640-646
Relaxations of dichroism and birefringence and changes in the transmit
tance value after the orienting held was cancelled out were theoretica
lly analyzed for monodisperse and polydisperse suspensions. The standa
rd integral equation of polydisperse relaxation with an exponential ke
rnel was shown to be valid for the Rayleigh particles with any degree
of initial ordering; for non-Rayleigh particles, this equation may be
applied only in the case of weak orienting fields. Experimental exampl
es representing nonexponential relaxation of an electrooptical turbidi
metric signal for a monodisperse suspension of bacterial cells ate giv
