The tetramethylammonium thioarsenate(III) [Me4N](2)[As6S10] (1) has be
en prepared together with the minor product [Me4N](2)[AS(4)S(7)] (2) b
y reaction of [Me4N]Cl with AS(2)S(3) and Na2S in acetonitrile at 115
degrees C. The polymeric anion of 1 consists of adjacent [1(chi)[As3S5
-]] chains linked together into a (1)(chi)[As6S102-] double chain thro
ugh planar As2S2 rings involving As atoms of every second constituent
ring-shaped As3S6 building unit. A relatively undistorted psi-AsS4 tri
gonal bipyramidal geometry is observed for the participating As atoms.
Individual As3S6 units are linked by bridging AsS3 pyramids into the
zweier single chains (1) chi[As4S72-] in 2.
