PECULIAZITIES OF THE CHLOROPHYLL DISTRIBUTION IN THE SEA OF OKHOTSK

The results of chlorophyll studies with profilitig devices in the Sea of Okhotsk are presented, In summer, the highest concentrations of chl orophyll are characteristic to the north-eastern part of the sea, the shelves of the western Kamchatka and eastern Sakhalin, the Kashevarov bank, and the Kuril area, where the chlorophyll content in the photic layer regularly exceeded 1 mu g/1, the charfcteristic value of the eut rophic waters. Pelagic waters with low concentrations of chlorophyll ( 0.2-0.4 mu g/1) due to zooplanktonic grazing of phytoplankton could al so be considered highly productive. This alows us to consider the enti re Okhorsk Sea as one of the eutrophic basins of the World ocean.
