GEOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE MOHN RIDGE

Geological and biological investigations in the northern part of the M ohn Ridge (72 degrees 20'N) were carried out on board of R/V ''Academi c Mstislav Keldjsh'' during July, 1995. Observations and geological an d biological sampling on the slopes of the extrusive zone and the cald era on its summit were carried out from two ''Mir'' sub-mersibles. Sev eral active hydrothermal plumes were discovered by rosette measurement s and nephelometry, Bottom sediments of the rift valley are enriched i n some metals. Thus, a new hydrothermal site on the ocean floor was di scovered.
