Abstract
Er-doped silica glasses have been prepared using a sol of fumed silica and HNO3 acidified tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). The gels were cha racterised using thermal analysis, density, TEM, refractive index, abs orption and fluorescence spectra. The effect of Al3+ and K+ ions on th e emission spectrum of Er3+ ions has also been demonstrated.
