Mn. Karpova et al., COMBINED PATHOGENETIC THERAPY OF EPILEPSY IN EXPERIMENT, Zurnal nevropatologii i psihiatrii im. S.S. Korsakova, 97(7), 1997, pp. 41-45
Combined pathogenetic therapy (CPT) of experimental convulsive syndrom
e (maximal electroshock) included combined action of the drugs on the
basic mechanisms of epileptogenesis by means of increase of the inhibi
tory GABA-ergic processes and inhibition of neuronal Ca-2++ and Na-+ u
ptake. It was established that combined usage of certain preparations
permitted to decrease considerably their doses and to receive either s
ufficiently high therapeutic index of the combinations or relatively l
ow potentiation of the toxic effects. The most effective combinations
of the drugs were determined. They may be recommended for clinical exa
mination. The results obtained by the authors justify CPT usage for su
ppression of epileptic activity.
