Abstract
Strong anomalies in the Raman scattered intensity of an internal mode have been detected in the S-C alpha, phase of C8 tolane. Based upon a n orientational order parameter analysis, they are attributed to large tilt angle fluctuations by comparison with those encountered in the n eighbouring smectic A and smectic C phases.
