Bl. Delahaye et al., THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANDRAGOGICAL AND PEDAGOGICAL ORIENTATIONS AND THE IMPLICATIONS FOR ADULT LEARNING, Adult education, 44(4), 1994, pp. 187-200
Current literature suggests that the relationship between andragogy an
d pedagogy is based on a continuum. This study found that the relation
ship of andragogical and pedagogical orientations, measured by the Stu
dent's Orientation Questionnaire, is more correctly represented as bei
ng orthogonal or at right angles to each other. Such an orthogonal rel
ationship reflects the complexities involved in adult learning. The pa
per discusses implications for both the learning process and for futur
e research.
