Abstract
These experiments studied the effects of corn stillage in broiler and turkey starter diets and the efficacy of various products to preserve the resulting high-moisture diets. Corn stillage fed at an 8-10% level on a dry matter basis (DMB) supported broiler growth and feed convers ion comparable to those obtained with the control diet. Turkey poults were able to consume a 16% corn stillage (DMB) diet with growth and fe ed conversion comparable to that of the control diet. Both broilers an d turkeys reduced their drinking water intake to compensate for water consumed via the feed. This resulted in no change in broiler fecal moi sture and only a 5% increase in turkey fecal moisture. Both 3% propion ic acid and 3% Shield preservative were effective in preserving the hi gh-moisture stillage diets. Aflaban preservation at 0.08% was not as e ffective as the other compounds tested in preserving the diets.
