F. Endres et G. Schwitzgebel, FORMATION OF SECONDARY CRYSTALLITES DURING ELECTROCHEMICAL CYCLING OFHYDROGEN MOLYBDENUM BRONZE, Materials research bulletin, 31(12), 1996, pp. 1537-1541
Powder samples of hydrogen molybdenum bronzes (HxMoO3) were effectivel
y stabilized by the addition of 30 mass% polyethylene (PE) powder, pre
ssing and a following thermal treatment, The composite material does n
ot degrade in 0.05 mol l(-1) H2SO4 but shows 1-3 mu m wide cracks in t
he surface and the formation and growth of small hydrated bronze cryst
als (1-10 mu m) during electrochemical cycling. An electrochemical dis
solution/precipitation mechanism is presented and discussed.
