Third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities chi((3)) of trans-dihyd
roxy-1,6,11,16-tetra-(tert. butyl) porphyrazine germanium [t-Bu(4)PazG
e(OH)(2)] thin films measured by the third-harmonic generation techniq
ue are reported for the first time. The chi((3))(-3 omega; omega, omeg
a, omega) value as high as 1.3x10(-11) esu was observed from a dominan
t three-photon resonance. The chi((3)) values of porphyrazine germaniu
m derivative are analogous to metallophthalocyanines and these results
imply thar axial substitution is beneficial for enhancing third-order
optical nonlinearity. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
