MARL LAYERS OF PERITIDAL CARBONATE PLATFORM AS INDICATORS OF CLIMATICCHANGES (HETTANGO-SINEMURIAN, CAUSSE DU LARZAC, FRANCE)

The sedimentation of mart layers of the Hettango-Sinemurian peritidal dolomites of southern Larzac was not restricted to a specific environm ent, but extended into the whole subtidal marine domain. It correspond s to a temporary substitution of the dominant carbonate sedimentation by marls. We propose a climato-eustatic interpretation of this substit ution and the use of peritidal marl layers as climatic indicators.
