Abstract
Sound absorption by non homogeneous porous materials made up of random or regular arrays of porous media is calculated by two methods based upon a simple modeling of the acoustic field, and by the finite elemen t method. The difference between absorption mechanisms in three-dimens ional porous patchworks and simpler stratified materials is investigat ed. The importance of non-propagative mechanisms in sound absorption i s enlightened.
