Medulloepithelioma of the optic nerve is a rare developmental tumor. W
e describe a 2-year-old boy with profound loss of vision associated wi
th a visible tumor of the optic nerve head in his left eye. A clinical
ly diagnosed retinoblastoma necessitated left eye enucleation. The his
topathological diagnosis was malignant medulloepithelioma that was inc
ompletely resected. Further tumor resection was required, and the pati
ent received adjunctive chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Four years afte
r treatment, the patient has neither clinical nor radiological evidenc
e of tumor.
