With data of the German hybrid programme genetic and phenotypic correl
ations between the three complexes performance rest results (growth an
d carcass traits), quantity and quality of ejaculates and fertility (l
itter size and fertilization rate) were estimated. Correlations betwee
n performance and semen quantity traits are generally low. Except betw
een ejaculate volume and growth traits all correlations show genetical
ly favourable trends. All correlations between performance test and mo
tility criteria show genetically unfavourable tendencies. Correlations
between performance and fertility traits are also small and show high
standard errors. Single observations of ejaculates and directly corre
sponding fertility results are not correlated because of the technical
confectioning of semen doses. For the breeding programme no changes o
f the present performance testing scheme of Al boars follow from the r
esults of this study.
