With reference to recent progress in preparing slow and intense Rb bea
ms (rubidium atomic funnel and low-velocity intense source of atoms fr
om a magneto-optical trap) we have calculated total and differential e
lastic scattering cross sections and scattering lengths for ground-sta
te collisions of Rb-85 as well as Rb-87. Our results are based on the
state of the art X-1 Sigma(g)(+) and a (3) Sigma(n)(+) potentials. Pro
nounced resonances in the total scattering cross sections occur for co
llision velocities below 15 m/s. We propose scattering experiments wit
h slow Rb beams in order to check the currently known singlet and trip
let potential-energy curves.
