Abstract
We propose a time-dependent level-crossing approach to the generation of high harmonics by a two-level system which stresses the periodicity of the processes involved. We establish relationships between multipl e Landau-Zener crossings of energy levels and features of high harmoni c generation such as cutoff, conditions for a plateau, and plateau hei ght.
