The Kasumi-Kamio parameters (margins, peripheral echoes, internal echo
es, posterior echoes, lateral shadow cones) and the ratio between the
longitudinal and transverse diameter of the breast lump form the basis
for a list of standardised diagnostic criteria on which to base an an
alysis of breast disease that assesses the specificity and sensitivity
of ultrasonography as a valid, reliable initial step in the diagnosis
of breast tumours. The study was based on a series of 129 tumour case
s and produced correct diagnosis in 89.28% of benign, 83.33% of malign
ant cases.
