Abstract
The biology and treatment of esophageal cancer are being redefined bot h in the laboratory and in the clinic. This article highlights some of the pertinent issues with regard to the biology of squamous cell canc er of the esophagus (ESCCA), including environmental factors, biologic observations, and the role of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in t he management of esophageal cancer.
