Abstract
The asymmetric synthesis of pentacyclic compound 1 3, a known intermed iate in the synthesis of 1-acetylaspidospermidine, was conducted via t he condensation of 2-hydroxytryptamine with chiral C9 lactone 9, readi ly available from triol 4. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
