C. Poplin, THE FIRST HAPLOLEPIFORM (PISCES, ACTINOPTERYGII) FOUND IN FRANCE (UPPER CARBONIFEROUS BLANZY-MONTCEAU BASIN, MASSIF-CENTRAL), Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie II. Sciences de la terre et des planetes, 324(1), 1997, pp. 59-66
The discovery of Blanzyhaplolepis beckaryae nov. gen., nov. sp, in the
Stephanian B Blanzy-Montceau basin extends the haplolepiform stratigr
aphical and paleogeographical distributions. To date this group was kn
own from Namurian to Stephanian A, after 13 species in North America,
seven in the United Kingdom and a single one in Bohemia. The rarity of
this group in continental Europa could indicate that Haplolepiforms w
ere mainly marine, also that they found in Upper Carboniferous Europea
n limnic basins less propitious conditions than the paralic equivalent
s in North America.
