Abstract
The modification in CO-metal interaction due to adsorption on differen t bifunctional sites on a Au/Pd(111) bimetallic surface was identified by high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy, Anger electron spectroscopy and atomic resolution scanning tunnelling microscopy imag ing. By comparison of surfaces with systematically varied morphology a nd local composition we could distinguish between CO adsorption on Pd( 111) sites, Au island edge sites and mixed PdAu surface sites and this way establish a clear correlation between local structure and local c hemical behavior.
