Abstract
A side-entry-type specimen holder for a high-resolution transmission e lectron microscope (HRTEM) was developed for the atomistic visualizati on of the vapor-phase epitaxial growth process. Gold was vacuum-deposi ted on a (001) surface of a magnesium oxide substrate inside the HRTEM using the specimen holder. It was found that structural modification of a gold cluster and an interface can be observed cross-sectionally b y time-resolved high-resolution transmission electron microscopy at a spatial resolution of 0.2 nm and a time resolution of 1/60 s.
