Adsorption on iron and the protective after-effect of some ethanolamin
es on ferrous and nonferrous metals was studied. It was demonstrated t
hat N,N-diethylaminoethanol, the most volatile and effective ethanolam
ine, forms a polymolecular film at high plp(s) (in vacuo or in air). H
owever, even if a monolayer is formed, it substantially decreases the
maximum adsorption of water. The effect of the chemical structure of v
olatile corrosion inhibitors of this type on the desorption kinetics a
nd protective after-effect of adsorption films formed on the metal sur
face in the air atmosphere was analyzed. IFKhAN-111, a new VCI composi
tion based on N,N-diethylaminoethanol, was proposed. This inhibitor ef
fectively protects ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
