On the basis of measurements of the electrical conductivity of the det
onation products of aluminum-RDX mixtures, we have shown that metal bu
rning begins immediately behind the detonation front and lasts over 10
mu sec. For aluminized explosives, the increased-conductivity zone co
rresponds to the high-temperature region which is due to the reaction.
