Abstract
A practical standard illuminant should be relevant to design studios, production, and retail stores. There is currently no standard illumina nt with a color temperature higher than incandescent that fits the req uirements. Many new sources with a wide range of color temperatures ar e on the market but are not yet standardized. Too many choices though, can be as bad as too few. We believe that a new standard illuminant c an be defined that is far superior to cool white fluorescent and has m ore relevance to the industry that demands it.
