Abstract
Formulas have been obtained that relate the gain of the optical system of an astronomical television camera and the limiting SNR in optoelec tronic and television systems for observing low-contrast objects on a bright background. Electronic-engineering and optical interpretations of the resulting dependences are given. (C) 1997 The Optical Society o f America.
