Abstract
A new remote optical method has been developed for detecting zones of oil contamination on a water surface from on board a vessel. The metho d is economical and simple and makes it possible to prevent the surfac e shape from affecting the results of the work. Data of laboratory tri als obtained by means of a prototype of the device are presented. (C) 1997 The Optical Society of America.
