Abstract
Eigenmode expansion is used to find the transmission, reflection, and radiation from a step junction in dielectric slab waveguide. Although the eigenmode expansion is applied to a slab waveguide enclosed by met allic box, it is shown that from the amplitude of the ''radiation-like '' modes of this waveguide the radiation characteristics of the open w aveguide can be found successfully. Several examples are presented to confirm the validity of this procedure. (C) 1997 Society of Photo-Opti cal Instrumentation Engineers.
