Syn-magmatic structures of the Ansignan charnockite show that its empl
acement occurred during an extensional tectonic event which can be est
imated at around 316 Ma. This together with the relationships between
the granite and its surrounding migmatites further imply that anatexis
of the lower gneissic unit also occurred during extension. The emplac
ement of the St.-Arnac granite appears to post-date this crustal thinn
ing event.
