Abstract
The discrete spectrum of global solar modes was discovered in 1979 by Claverie et al. Here we report the first determination of the continuu m spectrum in velocity, where atmospheric and instrumental effects hav e been significantly reduced. Cross-correlations of velocity measureme nts at four observing stations of a global network have made this poss ible. The solar noise power is a factor of 5 lower than expectations.
