Sj. Adelman et Agd. Philip, ELEMENTAL ABUNDANCES OF THE FIELD HORIZONTAL-BRANCH STARS .3., Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 269(3), 1994, pp. 579-588
Studies of 55-angstrom wide regions recently obtained with a CCD at th
e coude feed telescope of the Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO) ar
e used to extend the fine analyses of the field horizontal-branch (FHB
) A stars HD 7472 1, HD 86986 and HD 130095, and to begin those of HD
93329, HD 128801 and HD 167105. ATLAS9 model atmospheres were used. Sp
ectra of other stars, obtained at both KPNO and the Dominion Astrophys
ical Observatory (DAO), confirm previously found wavelength-dependent
equivalent width systematics. The FHB A-type stars have somewhat diffe
rent chemical compositions than other Population II stars. Most import
antly, the [Ca/Fe] values for about one-half of our sample are smaller
than the trend of values for the metal-deficient field red giants fou
nd by Luck & Bond. HD 128801 has a somewhat different pattern of abund
ance anomalies than the other FHB A stars studied. Some of the abundan
ces of the FHB A stars are found to be correlated: Al with Fe, Ca with
Ti, Ti with Cr, and Ti with Fe.
