A fluid-active structure interaction problem applied to the case of bl
ood flow in arteries is solved using the finite volume method for the
fluid and the membrane theory for!for the solid. In this work the acti
ve properties of the arterial wall (autoregulation mechanisms) are tak
en into account and are represented in the model by a modification of
the rheological parameters of the wall. The results show: (i) that we
must consider the autoregulation law in the mathematical development o
f a model on arterial flow: and (ii) that the kinematics of the arteri
al wall seem to be more sensitive to the autoregulation mechanism base
d on shear stress than to the one based on pressure.
