A SIMPLE METHOD OF EVALUATION OF THE HALF-WAVE REDUCTION POTENTIALS

The half-wave reduction potentials of m-terphenyl derivatives: 1-amino -3,5-diphenylobenzene and 1-amino-2,6-dicyano-3,5-diphenylobenzene hav e been measured using the cyclic voltamperometry technique. The reduct ion potentials of the investigated compounds as well as over 50 other compounds are successfully correlated with the energy of their LUMO or bitals. The correlations can be useful in evaluating the half-wave red uction potentials which are difficult to obtain experimentally.
