The heat Q of transformation of the chains in amorphous sulphur was me
asured calorimetrically. The mean value Q for samples remelted at T-f
= 443 K increases from 31.5 to 45.9 J g(-1) in the measurement tempera
ture range from 288 to 303 K. For samples remelted in the T-f range fr
om 443 to 573 K, the (Q) over bar values are from 30.6 to 24.0 J g(-1)
. The results are discussed on the basis of the theory of nucleation a
nd growth of nuclei.
