Abstract
We discuss an approach towards the many-body description of sub-barrie r fusion and spontaneous fission based on the semiclassical Vlasov equ ation and the Feynman path integral method. We define suitable collect ive variables from the Vlasov solution and use the imaginary time tech nique for the dynamics below the Coulomb barrier.
