Abstract
The formation, isolation and decomposition of mercury(II) trichloroace tate is described. The reaction between mercury(II) oxide and trichlor oacetic acid is conducted in methanolic solution. In this manner the n ew salt, mercury(II) trichloroacetate, is isolated. Also, the intermed iate of its decomposition, mercury(I) trichloroacetate, may be isolate d.
